During LEIP!, we believe it’s important for every student to feel welcome, safe, and at ease.That’s why this year, a Safe Space will be available during various activities of the orientation period in Leeuwarden: an accessible place where students can go if they need a moment of peace, a listening ear, or support.
The Safe Space is open to everyone. For example, if a student feels unsafe, is dealing with unwanted behavior, feel overwhelmed, or simply wants to escape the hustle and bustle for a bit. Healthcare professionals and trained volunteers will be on hand to listen, offer advice, and work together with students to determine what support is needed. Sometimes a quiet conversation is enough; other times, they’ll help a student safely return to their friends or refer them for further assistance if needed.
With the Safe Space, we aim to contribute to a positive, safe, and worry-free orientation period, so that students can get to know Leeuwarden and student life with peace of mind.
